D&C Communal is a community-led nonprofit organization working to advance health, food access, environmental stewardship, and economic opportunity through Greater Houston.

To eliminate food insecurity and reduce health risks in underserved and under-resourced communities through sustainable, community-led development that preserves residency, strengthens local networks, and creates life-changing opportunities.
Vision
At D&C Communal, our vision is to serve as the premier visual and active facilitator of hope in the 5th ward community, and foster self-determination and reliance within these communities. We envision thriving communities where every resident has access to healthy food, wellness resources, environmental assets, and opportunities to prosper for generations to come.
Our Story
Founded in 2021, D&C Communal initially began as an effort to improve one neighborhood church's effectiveness in being a source of assistance to its community. Over the past five years, the vision has expanded to building healthier, more connected communities through educational initiatives, environmental stewardship, community partnerships, wellness programming, and resident engagement.
Why This Work Matters
Food Insecurity
Many families lack access to affordable, nutritious food due to limited grocery options, transportation challenges, and rising household costs.
Health Disparities
Residents in historically underserved neighborhoods often experience higher rates of chronic health conditions and reduced access to preventative care, wellness resources, and health education.
Limited Community Investment
Many neighborhoods lack access to green infrastructure, wellness spaces, and equitable development opportunities that can support a better quality of life for residents.
